Starting a New Year!

Just a brief report on our trip to Texas. This first picture is one of the few P was able to take at the Hatshepsut exhibit we went to see in Fort Worth the day after Christmas. This was right at the entrance to the exhibit. We stood in line for about 45 minutes to get tickets. It took about that same amount of time to walk through the exhibit. There were so many people you couldn't spend a lot of time on each item. Our daughter was the one that wanted to see the exhibit, she is very interested in anything connected with Egypt. It was a very interesting exhibit and she really enjoyed it.

We enjoyed our time in Texas with hubby's family, and our daughter, of course. She was upset with her dad calling his recently published book his "baby." She thought she was his "baby." He assured her that she is still his "baby."

P's mom had been sick and was still sick while we were there. He took her to the doctor and she had bronchitis. She must have pulled a muscle in her back from all the coughing, so she was that much more uncomfortable. P's cold came back, our grandson had a runny nose and cough, our son came down with a cold, and I had a sore throat, which later, on our trip back, turned into a full-fledged cold. We spent Friday night in Lubbock. Had to take hubby to the emergency room because his returning cold went into his eyes. We stayed an extra day in Lubbock because of weather conditions between the state line and Albuquerque. On Saturday I was miserable with my cold. We stayed in bed all day, used up two boxes of kleenex and finally headed home later on Sunday morning. We did run into some closed roads, including I-40 between Santa Rosa and Clines Corners. So we found another highway back down to Vaughn and went over to Willard and up to Belen and into town in heavy fog. This first picture is of the car sitting in the driveway the next morning. Oh, by the way, we left Lubbock about 11 a.m. (Texas time) and got home at 6:30 p.m. (New Mexico time). E had to shovel one side of the driveway just to get the car up. It was a good foot deep (yes, 12 inches). It took him most of the next morning to shovel the rest of the driveway, the sidewalk up to the front door and the sidewalk out by the street. There was no mail delivery on Tuesday. The school were supposed to start back up on Wednesday, but they cancelled school. They only have four crews to clean 131 campuses, including 496 parking lots. They have cancelled school for the rest of the week. A little bit melted yesterday in the sun, but it's not getting very much above freezing. The sun is shining again today and it is melting a little bit more. But there's still plenty of snow out there. This next picture is of an icicle in the corner in front of the front door. The house two doors west of us also had very long icicles on the front of the house. This is the most snowfall in one day we have ever had. And there's supposed to be another storm in here sometime Friday. The other two pictures are other views of the front yard. There is still snow in the street, though it's mostly clear, but it's piled up on the edges.

I was supposed to go back to work on Tuesday, but I've been home for two days, lolling around in my p.j.'s. Haven't felt much like doing anything else. I felt pretty good for a while yesterday, but I think that was because of all the over-the-counter drugs in me. Today I haven't had much drugs, except for Ibuprofen for the body aches, and I'm starting to feel almost human again. Need to go to work tomorrow if I can. AFLAC representatives will be in the building. Also need to get started working on our first issue of the paper for the year.

I was starting to get cabin fever today, wanted to get out and do something. Layed here yesterday and watched all four Harry Potter movies! But if I can get a decent night's sleep tonight, I might feel up to going to work tomorrow. Hope my voice starts to come back. It's no fun not being able to talk. You don't realize how much talking you do in a normal day until you can't talk. TTFN
